Batman & Son
The beginning of Grant Morrison's Batman. The Joker thinks he's finally killed Batman, but it turns out to be a Batman wannabe, who shoots Joker in the head. Is the Joker dead? You'll have to buy this and find out!
Batman decides to take a break from being Batman and enjoy a playboy/James Bond life style as Bruce Wayne. Of course, Batman can never take a vacation. He is attacked by an army of ninja man-bats (read it to find out how) and brought to Talia Al Ghul, who dumps their genetically perfect love child upon him as introduced in "Son Of The Demon." No spoiler there, it's in the title!
What happens now is Bruce trying to take care of his son, Damian, who turns out to be an annoying, ruthless, murderess little brat, who nearly kills current Robin, Tim Drake. Meanwhile, Batman ends up dealing with the "Three Ghosts Of Batman" which only proves to be a set up for "The Black Glove" and we can only hope it continues to be as good as this.
Art is great, as is also a possible future story at the end telling of a grownup Damian who has become the Batman of the future. The interlude story in the middle with CGI art and told in novel form may have seemed like a good idea, but it just ends up what it is; an interlude and speed hump in the pacing.
RATING:
Batman Story - 9/10
Continuity - 9/10 (one slight issue, Damian is shown to have been grown from fetus to baby in a lab. Though I'm sure this is understandable as in "Son Of The Demon," Talia never gave birth and claimed to Batman that she suffered a miscarriage. It's possible that she had a premature cesarian and kept him alive in a lab to hide him form Batman before sending him to a foster home. Though Morrison claims to have retconned "Son Of The Demon," and rather kept only some of it in continuity)
Art - 10/10
Coolness - 9/10
OVERALL - 9.2/10
