Other Related Trades Worth Checking Out
Superman: Birthright
There are several Superman origin trades out there. Loeb & Sales "Superman For All Seasons" is a classic. There has been the 80's origin in "The Man Of Steel" and more recently "Secret Origin." But for me, Birthright holds up as the best of recent times.
This displays an updated Superman, in world full of mobile phones and laptops. This trade is thick and solid and only leaves you wanting more. In fact, at times it felt like I was reading Marvel's Ultimates as it felt like a movie.
Before he even becomes Superman, Clark Kent travels the world, most notably in Africa, where he experiences oppression and war and is inspired to use his powers to bring peace to the world, all while discovering his heritage and ancestory from another planet. A solid read, especially for those who still think Superman is a cliche, childish comic.
And on another note, while the producers and director of the new "Man Of Steel" film have clearly stated that their is no main Superman story arc they have based it on, they did mention that Birthright is a major influence.
RATING:
Superman Story - 10/10
Art - 10/10
Continuity - ?/10 (Apparently no longer cannon)
Coolness - 8/10
OVERALL - 9/10

All Star Superman
This is one may be a head trip and a bit hard for those who don't know a thing about Superman, but even Superman regulars will have several WTF moments reading this. Even so this is by far the best Superman read out there, ever.
It has this crazy vibe, one I can't find words to describe. It's like Superman on LSD. Yet it reads real smoothly and the art is a treat for the eyes. I can't praise it enough.
RATING:
Superman Story - 10/10
Art - 10/10 (maybe more so for the colouring)
Continuity - ?/10 (again, non-cannon)
Coolness - 10/10
OVERALL - 10/10
Available in 2 trades: Volumes 1 & 2
Or in Absolute Edition

Green Lantern: Secret Origin
If you anything like me, one of those people who grew up with Marvel comics, and only ever touched D.C. for Superman and Batman, the latter of which you hold on another level, then D.C. comics can seem a bit 'out-there.'
This is Green Lantern updated for new readers. New will enjoy it. It's nothing to rave about, but it is pure enjoyment, even if most of it have Star Wars aesthetics. Check it out, you won't be dissapointed. It's the only Green Lantern trade you need and has enough villains to tickle you fancy.
Try to avoid the edition with the shitty Ryan Reynolds on the cover though.

Justice League: Origin (New 52)
So what if it's the New 52 version of Justice League. If you want at least one Justice League trade with no massive continuity issues then get this one. It's fun, full of action and as most have already said, like the last hour of an action movie.
In terms of characters, Batman and Green Lantern are central to the story, and Batman isn't completely useless with no powers. Superman is a dud. A "destroy-everything-before-investigate", unessicarily angry, ignorant and stupid dud. Flash is cool, Wonder Woman wants action and Cyborg gets an origin. With so much at stake with the planet destroyer Darkseid the main villain, Aquaman steals the show. Albeit minor, he gets the best full pages and panels.
