Hush
There's a mysterious man covered in bandages hunting Batman from afar, and it's personal. Killer Croc is on the loose and Poison Ivy is mind controlling the Man Of Steel.
Hush is a story close to Bruce's heart, going back to his childhood friend Thomas Elliot, now a famed surgeon. Joker is framed for the murder of Elliot while Batman's forbidden, never-to-be love life with Catwoman blazes to an all time high.
When I first read Hush, I didn't like it. It has too many plot holes and too many stories left open. In fact, Hush is probably one of the most overrated comic stories in recent memory, nor is it the best place to start for beginners, as many will mistakenly trick you into believing. What we do remember is that Hush was an exciting time for comics. It rejuvenated life back into Batman comics and had many fan boys rejoicing at the new found aspect that Batman will never die and will always have exciting new ways for stories to be told.
Reading it again more recently, you realise you just have to enjoy it for the ride because that's exactly what it is: Escapist fun!
There are still things in it that make me cringe, (SPOILERS) like the hint of a returning deceased Robin and of course Harvey Dent getting plastic surgery to look normal (someting fixed in "Face The Face"). Where it does succeed is Jim Lee's killer art (almost too perfect for a Batman comic) and the large amount of Batman rogues appearing along the way. You don't have to like it, but you can't not enjoy it.
RATING:
Batman Story - 7/10
Continuity - 10/10
Art - 9/10
Badassness - 5/10
OVERALL - 7.7/10
