Basic Green Lantern Reading Order
I recently became infatuated with the Green Lantern and what a worthy investment it proved to be. This is an easy list for newbies, excluding most of the Green Lantern Corps stuff, which is also cool and worth getting into to understand the larger universe of D.C. comics.
Emerald Dawn was the post-crisis origin of Green Lantern, until Geoff Johns brought us Secret Origin. Both Emerald Dawn 1 & 2 is currently out of print and was the first to establish Sinestro as Hal Jordan's mentor before becoming a villain. Other older stuff and pre-crisis Green Lantern can be found in Green Lantern Chronicles.
Reading Order:
Green Lantern: Secret Origin
Green Lantern: In Brightest Day (Not to be confused with the later Brightest Day. Collects older silver age comics with early Green Lantern adventures that inspired Geoff Johns' run with the title. Includes the origin of other Lantern Guy Gardner, how John Stewart became an Earth Lantern, how Sinestro became a villain [retconned somewhat by Secret Origin] and more.
Green Lantern/Green Arrow
Flash/Green Lantern: The Brave And The Bold
Tales Of The Green Lantern Corps Volume 1
Green Lantern Sector 2814 Volumes 1-3 (These as they lead up to and run alongside Crisis On Infinite Earths, plus they cover more issues than Tales Of The Green Lantern Corps Volume 2. Green Lantern Sector 2814 Volume 3 is to be released January 2014)
Crisis On Infinite Earths
Tales Of The Green Lantern Corps Volume 3
Justice League International: A New Beginning (Just for Guy Gardner)
Green Lantern: The Road Back (Is this out of print too?)
Green Lantern: Emerald Twilight/New Dawn (Hal Jordan becomes villain Paralax here and destroys the Green Lantern Corps after his home, Coast City is destroyed by Cyborg Superman and Mongul. The New Dawn part of this trade introduces Kyle Rayner as the new Green Lantern. It is best to read the Death & Return Of Superman before this. Out Of Print!)
Cosmic Odyssey (John Stewart fails to save the planet Xanshi from destruction. Not quite sure where this one goes so i'll stick it here.)
Green Lantern: Baptism Of Fire (The real beginning of Kyle Rayner as Green Lantern. Out Of Print!)
Zero Hour: Crisis In Time (Hal Jordan is the headlining villain, Paralax)
Final Night (This one tries to return Hal Jordan to his hero status but results in his death in the sun, which sets up Green Lantern Rebirth. Out Of Print!)
Green Lantern: Rebirth (The beginning of the modern, epic and best Green Lantern run. The return of Hal Jordan)
Green Lantern: No Fear
Green Lantern Corps Recharge (The rebuilding of the Green Lantern Corps)
Green Lantern: Revenge Of The Green Lanterns (The Rann-Thanagar War and Infinite Crisis happens mid-way through this trade.)
Green Lantern: Wanted Hal Jordan
Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps War (Incredible)
Green Lantern: Tales Of Sinestro Corps (Issues collected in this happen before, during and after the Sinestro Corps War.)
Green Lantern: Rage Of The Red Lanterns
Green Lantern: Agent Orange
Blackest Night
Green Lantern: Blackest Night
Green Lantern: Brightest Day (You don't need Brightest Day to read this)
Green Lantern: War Of The Green Lanterns
Green Lantern: Sinestro (Beginning Of The New 52)
Green Lantern: Revenge Of The Black Hand
Green Lantern: The End
What I, & most fans still want from D.C. in relation to Green Lantern:
-A sequel to Secret Origin, involving a retelling of Sinestro's downfall to an A-list villian.
-John Stewart's Green Lantern Mosaic to be reprinted.
-The Green Lantern Stories from action comics after the events in Tales Of The Green Lantern Corps Vol. 3. (These include the death of John Stewart love interest Katma-Tui)
-The Road Back to be reprinted, as bad as it may be.
-Emerald Twilight/New Dawn and Baptism Of Fire to be reprinted
-Zero Hour: Crisis In Time to be reprinted.
-These Guy Gardner trades never been printed: Guy Gardner: Year One, Guy Gardner: Reborn & Guy Gardner: Warrior issues 17-29.
-Final Night to be reprinted.
-For some strange reason, Green Lantern Corps Recharge is already out of print!
