Batman: Face The Face
It's been a year since the events of Infinite Crisis and Batman has returned to Gotham. Though not much has changed, the story opens with Commissioner Gordon awaking to a phone call, and then a sigh of relief when he is told that the Dark Knight is back.
As the tale goes on, we discover that Batman has (questionably) left Harvey Dent in charge of protecting Gotham. Harvey has been supposedly cured since he received plastic surgery to fix his face during the events of Hush. That's where this trade is important continuity wise. It is ultimately important for 3 things:
(Minor spoilers)
-Batman's return (and sudden humour and optimism with lack of grumpyness)
-Bruce adopting Tim Drake
-Harvey Dent turning back into Two-Face
That being said, this is about how Harvey Dent is accused for the murder of 3 low-tier villains, which cause him to believe he was never cured. However, Batman believes he is innocent and tries to find who has been running Gotham's crime from the shadows, eventually leading him to discover a certain someone in Arkham, in which the reveal doesn't live up to the hype, and it's all too late because Harvey decides to scar himself again due to him not being able to distinguish if Two-Face ever left his mind. It may fall flat in Batman discovering the real culprit, but it succeeds in great pacing, and a great relationship between Batman and Tim Drake/Robin, if not the perfect depiction of the two. It's all worth it in the end to Tim break down into tears and embracing Bruce after he is told that Bruce Wayne has adopted him as his own son. Little does he know that Bruce has a son, as this leads directly into Batman & Son.
RATING:
Batman Story - 8/10
Art - 7/10
Continuity - 10/10
Coolness - 7/10
OVERALL - 8/10
Unfortunately, this trade is out of print and is quite hard to come by brand new. It is easy enough to get second hand through amazon or ebay. It's a shame since this is quite important continuitywise. Another shame is that the pages are printed in rough copy and not the usual smooth gloss paper of modern trades.
